Sonardyne Sentinel

Product Code: IT0000
Overview

Sentinel IDS® is a new Intruder Detection Sonar designed to counter the threat of underwater attacks against naval and merchant ships, large yachts, harbours, coastal industrial installations and offshore oil platforms.

Its introduction follows a major investment in engineering and acoustic technology by Sonardyne, a recognised world leader in the design, development and support of underwater acoustic navigation, positioning and communications solutions. Sentinel has been developed by some of the most experienced high frequency sonar designers in the world. Between them they have over 40 man-years of experience in Intruder Detection Sonars and have been responsible for some of the most advanced sonar systems in the world.

With a sonar head measuring just 44cm tall by 33 cm diameter and weighing 35kg in air, the Sentinel sonar array is considerably smaller than any other system currently available yet it provides a full 360 degrees of coverage and is capable of reliably tracking underwater targets 600 metres away. The compact size of the sonar head makes it ideal for expeditionary operation as it is capable of being easily palletised and rapidly deployed. The system can be mounted in many different ways, including suspension by its own cable, pole mounted or on the seabed.

The practicality of its design makes Sentinel a realistic option for protecting a wide range of maritime assets. Expeditionary warfare units in overseas ports are widely recognised as the most visible and vulnerable of targets, however Sentinel can be used to protect any sensitive fixed installation with a water perimeter. These include most of the world's valuable oil and gas refineries, Liquefied Natural Gas terminals and power stations. With many of these facilities already deploying conventional terrestrial security systems including: thermal imaging, CCTV, radar and ground sensing devices, Sentinel now closes the defensive circle against intruders.
